About Us
At Zion Lutheran we are committed to Reaching Out, Strengthening the Saved, and Serving Jesus Christ by Serving Others.
Zion Lutheran Church is a gathering of Christians committed to following Jesus. We know Jesus is the world’s Savior as well as our personal Savior. As followers of Jesus, we want to share the message of His love and offer of eternal life wherever we can.
Zion Lutheran Church is also a gathering of Lutherans. We are first drawn together through our love of God, but we are also drawn together through our Lutheran doctrine (what is taught) and theology (our relation to God.) What makes us Lutherans is the belief that Lutheran theology accurately teaches the truths of God as given us in the Bible. We believe The Book. We believe that in the Bible God shares with us all the truths necessary for spiritual life and salvation.
Just what exactly is salvation? Salvation is the offer of God to save us from the consequences of our sins. What are sins? Anything that God says offends Him or which He tells us is wrong to do or think. You see, God is holy and He can’t just ‘look the other way’ and pretend not to see our sin. His holiness doesn’t allow that. But God is also pure love! He doesn’t want our sins to cause a rift between Himself and us. That’s why He took extreme action. He sent His Son here to take the punishment that we deserve for our sins. That’s what Jesus was doing on the cross – receiving the punishment for all the sins of all humankind.
Is that love, or what? God’s Son left heaven and became a human being so that He could rescue us and one day bring us to heaven. Incredible! That’s why you often hear Christians refer to this as the “Good News”! Then, of course, Jesus rose from the dead, thus defeating death both for Himself and for us. Everyone who has a living faith in Jesus Christ is promised entrance into heaven for all eternity. And forget the pearly gate and floating on cloud stuff. It’s going to be awesome! Pure joy and love. No pain or sickness. No people on your back. Nothing that could be called evil or mean. Only peace, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and tons more.
